The poor and infirm always seem to show up at the wrong times. Like in times of need. But, that facility, and that is what it is, a facility, just doesn’t want to be reminded, or should I say, offended, by the sight of destitute and homeless in front of their gilded facility. If Christ showed up on their doorstep dressed as he was 2000 years ago, I’m sure he would get the bums rush. Now let’s pass that plate around….

Another offender is Metro in Los Angeles. They have put steel studs on resting surfaces to discourage the homeless and also design actual seats to be uncomfortable concrete at best and impossible to lay down on.

Yes, and the locals were shocked, shocked, to hear that someone could be spraying the homeless with water to keep them away from the side doors of the church (didn’t work, by the way). But this same church does more for the homeless than the critics would dream of doing (the whole church is a homeless shelter in winter, for example) — and the City has erected homeless-unfriendly benches, bus stops and other public spaces all over their domain — i.e. the same people who were shocked that the church would do anything like what they do every day.

(I don’t disagree that this was a bad idea, by the way, but the hypocrisy irritates me.)

But see…they weren’t spraying them with water to keep them away…they were giving them something to drink because the drought made them thirsty.

FWIW, the Bishop responsible for this has apologized and reversed the policy. He did so over a week ago.

Well, that makes everything better.
